On Saturday, September 14th, Optimus Jiu-Jitsu held our annual summer rank promotion in Laguna Niguel. The day began with an excellent seminar by Professor Tinguinha, who covered several secret techniques for better guard retention. The mats were packed with students eager to learn the new Jiu-Jitsu techniques. It is such an honor to host Professor Tinguinha every year, as it gives all of our BJJ students a chance to connect with Professor Grant’s instructor and understand the lineage.
Soon after the seminar, we began our rank promotion. We awarded rank stripes first to both kids and adults, and then we moved on to belts. It truly is a special time for the students; it marks a moment of accomplishment and recognition by their peers. All of the hard work they have put in and the jiu-jitsu they have studied has resulted in the achievement of a new rank. The entire school moves a little bit closer to their goal of earning a black belt. It’s a proud moment for all.
We finished the day with an ice cream party for the whole school. Both the parents and the kids enjoyed ice cream and snacks provided by the OC Ice Cream Truck. With the sun shining and sticky smiles all around, our jiu-jitsu community headed into the weekend a little bit stronger and ready to begin working toward their next goals.
